LOCATIONS.
ONE MISSION.

The Agawam Historical Association is dedicated to preserving the town’s rich history and inspiring our community to develop a deeper connection to the places, people, and experiences that have helped shape the town over nearly four centuries.

We invite you to attend our informative quarterly meetings, explore our collection of town-related artifacts, documents, and stories at the Agawam Historical & Fire House Museum, attend interesting outdoor events at The Thomas Smith House, and have fun while learning how Agawam has become the town we love today.

EXPERIENCE OUR LOCAL HISTORY

Step into past and discover something new!

THE AGAWAM HISTORICAL & FIRE HOUSE MUSEUM

Located in the former Agawam Fire Department Station No. 3 on Elm Street in Agawam Center, the Agawam Historical & Fire House Museum was dedicated on Memorial Day, 2002.

The first-floor Russell D. “Rusty” Jenks Apparatus Bay is home to our collection of firefighting equipment, including an antique fire truck.

The second floor houses the Association’s collection of town-related documents and artifacts.

THE thomas smith house

The Thomas Smith House is like no other house museum in the area. Built c. 1757, the house remains in near-original condition, without central heat or central plumbing. Original hardware and finishes survive in what has been described as an “unusually intact example of eighteenth century building practices.”

Purchased by the Agawam Historical Association in 2002, the house was opened to the public in 2010 after an eight-year preservation project.

The Smith House was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Help Preserve Agawam’s History

Everyone in Agawam is part of our town’s collective history, and each person’s perspective and impact matters. It doesn’t matter how long you or your family have lived here – you can help us preserve our history for all to learn and experience.

Help us collect meaningful stories of Agawam by volunteering your time, sharing photographs, or sharing town-related artifacts. If you would like to become more involved, we welcome you to support the Agawam Historical Association through membership.
